Silo structure is a form of internal link structure that has been popular since 2010. In 2011 until now, this structure is considered one of the best structures to apply for SEO. Join XDIGI to learn more about Silo structure and how to create Silo structure for your website through this article.
What is Silo Structure?
Silo is the name of a cellar or tower containing pet food in English. Actually, it’s just a name for the image because the Silo structure looks a lot like those towers.
But the essence of the silo structure in SEO is that it is tightly linked and there is no dead end (dead link). The links in the silo structure must be sequential and without overlap. and usually form a single closed circle.
The difference between SILO structure and normal structure
Most of these structures are integrated right when designing the website, but most are not standard and there will be some mistakes while using. Here are a few tips on how to create a silo structure.
How to create silo structure in SEO
There are two things you need to keep in mind while creating the silo structure:
Let the menu items match
Most people usually put all the categories on the website on the menu bar. This is very good but according to the Sili structure you should give the largest categories, In the largest categories you can show the subcategories of those big categories.
To avoid confusion, you should create only large categories like your blog, but the nature is different so I can’t say the same, but if possible, you should do it to make it simpler.
Avoid dead links
One of the most common mistakes made by SEOs is creating a link to their own article. The 3 places that often appear this type of link are Breadcrumbs, H1 tags, and related articles.
In Breadcrumb one more thing to note is that it will be possible to duplicate links with the category and create 2 duplicate links like this:
And the best way is to add here the noffolow attribute. The purpose of Breadcrumb is only to declare data structures, not for indexing, so you can rest assured. Although it is not too impactful, having too many duplicate links to the same content in the same post is not good and the consequences can become link spam at any time. There is a specific fact right on my own website that in the past, one of my posts usually had 3.4 links pointing to the category. 1 is in the menu, 2 is Breadcrumb, 3 is the category under the title, and sometimes there are some links to the category when I use the SEO Internal link Plugin. After that, I deleted the whole thing and felt the results were better.
In the section related articles or new articles… you should avoid displaying the link of the article itself. In my blog there is also a related article section at the bottom of the page, but I always control it so that it never appears the link of the article itself in this section.
